Joshua Robert Boyd began studying piano at the age of 9 in the small town of MarsHill, NC. When his family moved to Anderson, SC he continued to study piano with Carla Shaw and soon began studying both piano and organ with Fran Pinson. While in high school he was a cellist in the Anderson Symphony Orchestra and also played bassoon and euphonium in the school concert band. In 2009 he was featured as a soloist with the Anderson Symphony Orchestra performing Saint-Saens Third Symphony for Organ and Orchestra and premiering the Organ Concerto by Patrick Murch. In 2009 he was accepted into the piano department of Dr. Stephen Taylor at the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities and frequently studied with Dr. Charles Tompkins of Furman University. While at Governor's School he performed with the Wind Ensemble on piano, the Concertato Orchestra on harpsichord and the Contus Choir on organ. He is an active member of both the Anderson and Greenville, SC chapters of the American Guild of Organists. Before graduating from the Governor’s School he performed a complete solo recital of piano music by Beethoven, Debussy, Copland and a chamber work by Franck. Currently Joshua is studying organ performance at the University of Michigan with Dr. Marilyn Mason.
