Worship

Sundays at 11

Sunday worship is the heart of our community's life.

We gather on the Lord's Day to affirm God's claim upon us through Holy Baptism, to feast upon the Word proclaimed in scripture, sermon and song and to taste, touch and see God's love and forgiveness as we receive the bread and wine of the Holy Eucharist. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we go forth into the world to seek justice, to pursue peace and to serve our neighbors near and far.

We offer thanks and praise to God through a variety of liturgies and musical genres including classical, global, African-American, Hispanic, jazz and folk music. We welcome your musical gifts! If you play an instrument, love to sing or are eager to learn, Director of Music Ministries Tim Krohn will be happy to find just the right niche for you.

Worship is truly "the work of the people" as members of the community share their gifts by reading lessons, greeting worshipers, ushering and assisting in the leadership of worship. We cherish the gifts of those who interpret the Word through movement and the visual arts and encourage you to use your gifts in the worship of God.

Language in Worship

We strive to use inclusive and imaginative language, faithful to the tradition of the church yet sensitive to God's Spirit moving afresh in our times. Where nouns and pronouns in the service do not adequately reflect our faith in the Triune God who is neither male nor female, we encourage worshipers to substitute words that better express their praise. Expect to experience occasional "dissonance" in our worship language since God exceeds our verbal description or understanding.
