Sue Sprowls

Campus Pastor Sue Sprowls grew up in the western Chicago, IL suburb of LaGrange, the youngest child of a "his, mine and ours" family of five. Sue received her Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Occidental College, Los Angeles in 1985 and her M.Div. (summa cum laude) from Yale Divinity School in 1995.
Raised in the Presbyterian Church USA, as a young adult, Sue was active in the Episcopal Church before finding her spiritual home in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America while working for Lutheran Social Services of Southern California (LSS/SC). Her early volunteer work included tutoring at Five Acres Home for Children and serving as a buddy and support group facilitator for AIDS Project Los Angeles.
At LSS/SC and its sister agencies, California Lutheran Homes and Community Services and the Paragon Foundation, Sue's duties included: providing administrative support to the executive staff, managing the central office, administering liability coverage for more than 100 service locations, writing and publishing annual reports and quarterly newsletters and developing direct-mail fund raising appeals. In this capacity, Sue was fortunate to interface regularly with local, regional and national ELCA church staff who encouraged her to explore the ordained ministry.
While at Yale, Sue served a part-time internship at Salem Lutheran Church, Naugatuck, CT. After completing her M.Div., she completed her internship at LOL/LCM, where she was blessed by the gifts of the community and the mentoring of then Campus Pastor John Rollefson.
In 1997, Sue was granted one of the first Diplomas in Lutheran Studies by Berkeley (Episcopal) Divinity School at Yale. Ordained in December of that year, Sue served as Associate Pastor of All Saints Lutheran Church, Phoenix , from 1998 until 2005. During that time, Sue's pastoral portfolio included worship, adult education, lay caring ministries, stewardship, evangelism and social ministries.
Sue is joined in ministry by 6 year-old Barry (verger and evangelist) and 2 year-old Eli, both blond cocker spaniels, and W.T. Bear. In her spare time, Sue enjoys travel, photography, writing and scrap booking.
