Lutheran Campus Ministry
Serve
Caring for each other, embracing the world.
We don't merely talk about our faith. We act on it! Within the congregation, in the community and around the world, we are eager to put our faith into action to bear the light of Christ into the world. We invite you to join us as we reach out in Jesus' name.
Reaching Out
Each week as we leave worship, we are commissioned to, "Go in peace. Serve the Lord." We respond enthusiastically, "Thanks be to God" because it is a privilege to bear the light and love of Christ to our neighbors near and far. We do so sharing of our abundance, by serving meals to those who are homeless, raising funds for local and global ministries, providing gifts to families in need at the holidays and advocating for justice and peace in this community, the nation and around the world. Kelle Parsons coordinates our social ministry efforts. We invite you to join us in supporting the following ministries:

Bread for the World
CROP Walk
Dawn Farm
Food Gatherers Community Kitchen
Friends in Deed
Shelter Association of Washtenaw County
Winter Break Trips
Lord of Light Lutheran Campus Ministry has a long tradition of sponsoring alternative spring/winter break trips that focus on service and education.
2009: The Holy Land
February 21 - March 1, 2009
We'll be traveling with members of St. John Lutheran Church, Dundee and St. George Lutheran Church, Brighton to visit our companion synod, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land. We will learn firsthand what life is like for people living in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories by spending time with the people - the "living stones" of the Holy Land - as well as visiting some of the major historical sites of the faith. Estimated cost: $2,500 including travel, accommodations and most meals.
In preparation for this pilgrimage, we will be hosting a series of educational sessions and conversations with people well acquainted with life in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. In addition, we encourage you to explore the following sites:
Anna Baltzer: Witness in Palestine
Augusta Victoria Hospital
B'tselem Israeli Human Rights Group
Christian Peacemaker Teams
Churches for Middle East Peace
Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel

2008: Louisville & Lexington, Kentucky
We worshiped with the Lutheran-Episcopal Campus Ministry at the University of Kentucky, learned about racetrack ministry at Churchill Downs, did a variety of work with the Salvation Army, explored Greater Louisville and enjoyed some good, old-fashioned country fun at the Lincoln Jamboree!
Previous Years
2007: Hurricane Rita Recovery Work, Port Arthur, Texas
We gutted miss Mary's House, put up drywall, taped, mudded, painted and did our best to get it ready so she could move back in by Easter.
2006: Hurricane Katrina Relief Work, Biloxi, Mississippi
We covered a lot of territory on this trip! We took the inside of Marie's house down to the studs, helped with the relocation of the local humane society, volunteered in the free clinic, worked in "Camp Biloxi" distribution center and cleaned two dozen pots o' gold (aka port-a-potties)! Oh, yes! And we celebrated Mardi Gras in style!
2004: New Mexico

Our alternative spring break trip in 2004 was to New Mexico.
2003, 2001: Hurricane Mitch Rebuilding, Honduras
In the spring of 2001, some of our members helped rebuild a village in Hondouras. The village had been destroyed by hurricane Mitch.
1996: Cullowhee, North Carolina
Waaaaaaaaaay back when Pastor Sue was a lowly intern...on a joint trip to Appalachia with Presbyterian Campus Ministry.
